Valve has just released a new patch for its upcoming hero-shooter, Deadlock, introducing some notable updates—including a clever new anti-cheat system.

The patch notes cover a range of adjustments and the debut of a new hero named Mirage, but the standout feature is undoubtedly the inventive anti-cheat measure. Now, when a player is caught cheating, their opponents will be given two options: either ban the cheater immediately or turn them into a frog for the remainder of the match. After the match ends, the cheater is banned regardless, but not before they spend the game hopping around as an amphibian.

According to Valve, the detection system is currently set to conservative levels while they develop a more comprehensive anti-cheat solution, which will roll out in a few days. Matches with cheaters will not affect other players’ results, ensuring fairness.

Valve has been relatively quiet about Deadlock since it was quietly revealed back in August, despite leaks and significant interest from players. Recently, a Valve developer shared a sneak peek of an early prototype, featuring a simple urban setting with placeholder assets, including creatures from Half-Life 2 like the alien Antlions.
