It’s fair to say that Star Wars Outlaws hasn’t quite soared to the heights that many fans anticipated. While it’s certainly not a bad game, it feels like it’s had a bit of a rough landing, like an X-Wing touching down on Dagobah rather than a Falcon’s confident swoop onto Tatooine. However, the game’s future isn’t written in stone just yet. A new creative director, Drew Rechner, has shared an update with players, promising enhancements that could reignite the excitement around the title.

Our own Star Wars Outlaws review noted that while the game captures the spirit of a criminal’s life on the galactic fringe, it often feels surprisingly low-energy. With this in mind, there’s optimism that the upcoming changes may add the vitality the game currently lacks.

In a post on the official blog, Rechner revealed that players’ feedback has already led to three Title Updates, focusing on bug fixes, easing some mission difficulties, particularly around stealth, and adjusting the speeder camera and collision. Moving forward, Rechner shared three main areas the team aims to improve:

  • Combat: Enhancements will aim to make combat feel more dynamic and rewarding, adding depth and encouraging precise, tactical play.
  • Stealth: Updates here will improve how players understand enemy detection and offer more options for approaching encounters in a variety of ways.
  • Character Controls: Lastly, they’ll be refining movement by enhancing cover mechanics, improving the responsiveness of climbing and crouching, and increasing overall control consistency.

Whether these changes will ultimately address the game’s broader issues remains to be seen, but at least fans won’t have long to wait. These updates are expected to coincide with the release of the first story expansion, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card, and Patch 1.4 will go live on Thursday, November 21.
