Bohemia Interactive has officially announced that Arma 4, the next major installment in their military simulation series, will launch in 2027. The announcement, made during the developer’s 25th Anniversary Concert, was accompanied by serene, gun-free footage of a coastal promontory, drawing comparisons to The Elder Scrolls 6‘s teaser. This, however, is just a glimpse into what’s to come, and not a departure into an open-world walking simulator, despite the tranquil visuals.

Arma 4 was first teased in 2022, with Arma Reforger acting as a bridge to the full release, allowing players to test Bohemia’s Enfusion engine and provide crucial feedback. Reforger exited early access in November 2023, adding revamped systems and new mechanics, such as a revised supply chain and an early version of fast travel.

Known for its hyper-realism, Arma has been used for military training and has even sparked international incidents, as developers were once detained for photographing military installations. Bohemia’s focus on realism has been exploited in the past by groups using Arma footage to fake real-life conflicts. Despite the tactical realism of Arma, the company also developed the popular DayZ, an open-world zombie survival mod turned standalone game, renowned for its in-depth injury systems and compelling player narratives.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, players can hone their skills in Arma Reforger, gathering intel and preparing for the realistic battles to come in Arma 4.
