Rebellion, the studio behind Sniper Elite, has just released a brand-new trailer for its upcoming game Atomfall, offering an exciting glimpse into its unique setting, gameplay, and story. Set in an alternate 1962, Atomfall takes place in a fictional quarantine zone in the north of England, heavily inspired by real-world events like the Windscale fire of 1957, a nuclear reactor accident in Cumbria. Players will explore a sinister version of Britain, where the truth behind the nuclear disaster is far darker than what it seems.
In Atomfall, players will navigate a world under the tight control of Protocol, a shadowy military response team. But the big question remains: are they who they say they are? Players will also encounter the British Atomic Research Division (B.A.R.D.), responsible for secretive nuclear experiments in underground bunkers. Adding to the mystery are various factions, including eerie cults that have emerged in the aftermath, along with towering wicker men that loom over the landscape.
The latest trailer showcases the game’s intense first-person action, blending combat and stealth as players infiltrate military facilities, craft weapons and tools, and engage in thrilling battles with towering mechs and glowing, zombie-like creatures. Fans of Fallout will immediately notice the influence, but Atomfall brings a distinctly British flavor to the genre, from the rolling English countryside to quirky cultural nods like munching on Cornish pasties and being greeted with a cheerful “how do?!” by NPCs.
At Gamescom, the hands-on experience with Atomfall hinted at its RPG depth, with multiple dialogue options as players unravel the secrets buried beneath the hills. However, it’s still unclear if player choices will have significant impacts on the story’s direction.
Atomfall is set to launch on both current and last-gen consoles, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows. Excitingly for Xbox players, the game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one, giving fans an easy way to dive into this mysterious post-apocalyptic world.
With its compelling mix of British culture, nuclear intrigue, and engaging first-person gameplay, Atomfall looks like it’s shaping up to be a standout title, offering a fresh take on the post-apocalyptic genre with a uniquely British twist.
