AMD has officially teased its next-generation X3D desktop processors, marking the debut of its highly anticipated Ryzen 9000-series chips built on the Zen 5 architecture. While AMD hasn’t revealed detailed specifications or pricing, it has set a November 7th release date for the new chips. This announcement, timed ahead of Intel’s upcoming Core Ultra 200-series launch on October 24th, is notably slim on specifics, with only a single promotional slide provided.

Speculation is rife, however, fueled by recent leaks. The first processor expected to be unveiled is the Ryzen 9800X3D, featuring eight cores and a rumored 4.7GHz base clock, with boost speeds potentially hitting 5.2GHz or higher. These leaks have stoked excitement for what could be AMD’s next major step forward in desktop processing power.

According to leaked MSI slides, the new 9000X3D series is set to offer substantial improvements in productivity and creator workloads over the previous 7000X3D lineup. If the leaks are accurate, the performance in benchmarks like Cinebench R23 should be on par with the standard, non-X3D Ryzen 9000-series chips.

However, the X3D chips might not bring significant improvements in gaming performance over the existing 7000X3D models. Despite that, AMD’s new processors are expected to maintain a clear lead over Intel’s Core Ultra 200S series in gaming, especially as Intel has already acknowledged its latest desktop chips will trail AMD’s 7800X3D by around 5 percent in gaming benchmarks.

In addition to the X3D announcement, AMD is rolling out early holiday discounts on its Ryzen 9000-series processors. The flagship Ryzen 9 9950X is now up to $50 off, while the Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X are seeing discounts of up to $30.
