Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption, the critically acclaimed open-world western, will finally make its way to PC on October 29, 2024. This release will come bundled with the beloved zombie-themed expansion Undead Nightmare and will be available for purchase through the Rockstar Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Pre-order information is expected to be unveiled later this week.
The PC version, developed in partnership with Double Eleven, will feature a wide range of enhancements tailored for modern gaming setups. These improvements include native 4K resolution with support for up to 144hz on compatible hardware, ensuring a smoother, visually stunning experience. In addition, the game will support both Ultrawide (21:9) and Super Ultrawide (32:9) monitor formats, providing an even more immersive view of the expansive frontier. Players with HDR10-compatible displays can also enjoy deeper contrasts and vibrant colors, and the game will come with full keyboard and mouse functionality for optimal control.
Rockstar has further optimized the game for performance, with support for NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.7 and AMD’s FSR 3.0 upscaling technologies, offering higher frame rates and improved image quality. There’s also the inclusion of NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation for smoother gameplay, as well as adjustable settings for draw distances and shadow quality, allowing players to fine-tune their experience to match their hardware’s capabilities.
Originally launched in May 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption has since gained a massive fanbase. In August 2023, it was re-released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, further expanding its availability. Additionally, the game remains playable on current-generation Xbox consoles through backward compatibility, with the Xbox 360 version accessible on the Xbox store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S players.
The Red Dead Redemption series has seen significant commercial success, shipping over 91 million units worldwide. Of these, over 65 million copies are from Red Dead Redemption 2, the prequel that debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018 before making its way to PC in November 2019. With the upcoming PC release of the original Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar aims to bring the legendary western experience to a whole new generation of players, further cementing the game’s place in gaming history.
