Ubisoft’s long-rumored Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake may be launching sooner than fans anticipated. According to reliable insider Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, the game is reportedly “well into development.” Initially, the remake was aiming for a November 2025 release window. However, the recent delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows to 2025 has impacted Ubisoft’s planned roadmap, including other projects such as a multiplayer title and a mobile game. This could potentially shift the Black Flag remake release to 2026.
Henderson also revealed that the remake features gameplay of Edward Kenway’s iconic naval battles, now using Ubisoft’s upgraded Anvil Engine—the same engine that powers recent games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Mirage, and Skull and Bones. This suggests a significant visual and performance upgrade for the fan-favorite pirate adventure.
The Black Flag remake has been a constant rumor since 2023, with Ubisoft Singapore speculated to play a key role in its development due to their expertise in naval technology, honed through work on Skull and Bones. Earlier this year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that several remakes are in the works, sharing that the company is excited to revisit and modernize some of its older games. While Black Flag’s exact release date remains uncertain, it’s clear that Ubisoft has ambitious plans to bring beloved Assassin’s Creed worlds back to life sooner than many expected.
