Behaviour Interactive has officially canceled “Project T,” a co-op shooter spinoff of the popular Dead by Deadlight franchise. The announcement comes as the studio also confirmed the closure of Midwinter Entertainment, the development team behind the project. Midwinter Entertainment, which was founded in 2016 and later acquired by Behaviour in 2022, was working on the game until its cancellation. In a statement, Behaviour said, “This sad news in no way reflects the talent of the team, who put a lot of energy into Project T. All the employees were offered to relocate to our Canadian studios, as we strongly believe in their expertise. Should they decide not to accept, they will be presented with a generous severance package.” The company thanked the Midwinter team for their hard work and wished them the best for the future.
“Project T” was initially teased earlier this year as one of several Dead by Deadlight spinoff games. While “The Casting of Frank Stone” was released to some acclaim, and “What the Fog” briefly entered the spotlight, Project T never made it past the beta phase. The game, a third-person co-op shooter, was one of the rare instances where players in the Dead by Deadlight universe would be able to fight back against enemies using guns. Despite some positive feedback during playtests, Behaviour’s analysis revealed “unsatisfactory overall results,” which ultimately led to the decision to cancel the project.
The cancellation of Project T does not appear to impact the larger Dead by Deadlight franchise. Behaviour Interactive has been experimenting with various spinoff ideas, and while this one didn’t pan out, the core game and its many crossovers remain popular. Fans of the series still have titles like “The Casting of Frank Stone,” a narrative-driven game by Supermassive set in the Dead by Deadlight universe, and “What the Fog,” a Jumanji-like adventure where kids are sucked into a board game, to explore.
