It was previously rumored that a third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series was in the works at Respawn Entertainment, and now EA has confirmed that this upcoming game will serve as the “final chapter” in the story of Cal Kestis.
Hints of a third game first surfaced last October, when Cal Kestis’ actor, Cameron Monaghan, teased fans by saying, “We’re in the process of [making it] right now.” The official development was then confirmed in February as part of EA’s project update, following significant layoffs at the company.
In a recent Investor Day presentation, EA’s president of entertainment and technology, Laura Miele, shared new details, officially marking the next Star Wars Jedi game as the last chapter in Kestis’ journey. “Over 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with Cal Kestis and his arc of becoming a powerful Jedi,” Miele stated. “Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players.”
The Star Wars Jedi series began with Fallen Order and continued with Survivor, which was directed by Stig Asmussen, who envisioned the story as a trilogy. Asmussen, who departed from EA last year, previously explained that the series had been mapped out as a multi-part saga. “We had a pretty decent idea of the timeframe for where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was, and what Cal was going to be up against,” Asmussen told IGN. “And there’s ideas of what we could do beyond that as well.”
However, EA’s latest announcement confirms that Respawn is officially bringing Cal Kestis’ story to a close, though no further details about the upcoming game have been revealed yet.
This news comes alongside the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, following the release of a major patch for PC that includes performance improvements, the removal of Denuvo DRM, and other updates.
The final chapter of Cal Kestis’ journey is expected to tie up loose ends and deliver a fitting conclusion to the character’s story, bringing an epic close to the beloved Star Wars Jedi saga. Fans of the franchise eagerly await more information as Respawn continues development on this highly anticipated title.
