After much anticipation, AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) with Frame Generation is now officially available in Cyberpunk 2077, thanks to the latest Patch 2.13 update. Here’s a breakdown of the new features and improvements included in this patch:

Key Features:

  • AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) with Frame Generation: This major addition provides a smoother, more fluid gameplay experience by generating extra frames using existing frame data, much like Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology. It can be enabled on a broader range of hardware compared to Nvidia’s Frame Generation but requires a base performance of 60 fps for optimal results. AMD also cautions that enabling FSR 3 at lower frame rates might lead to visual artifacts and potential frame pacing issues.
  • Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.3: Support for Intel’s upscaling technology has been added, further broadening the range of available performance-enhancing options.
  • DLAA and DLSS Ray Reconstruction: The update now allows players to enable both Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA) and DLSS Ray Reconstruction simultaneously for enhanced visual fidelity and performance.
  • New “Utilities” Tab: A new tab has been added to the settings menu to house options such as HDD Mode, Hybrid CPU Utilization, and AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT).
  • Stability and Visual Fixes: As always, the patch brings additional stability improvements and fixes to various visual issues.

FSR 3 in Action:

FSR 3 with Fluid Motion Frames is AMD’s response to Nvidia’s DLSS 3 and Frame Generation, and it aims to offer a comparable boost to frame rates by inserting AI-generated frames between traditionally rendered ones. The upside to AMD’s approach is that it’s software-based, making it compatible with a wider array of GPUs. However, the recommendation to maintain a 60 fps baseline still stands, as lower frame rates may result in noticeable artifacts or pacing problems.

Before this official patch, modders had already enabled FSR 3 in Cyberpunk 2077 through a workaround that replaced DLSS 3 with FSR 3. While this mod worked well, the native implementation in Patch 2.13 is expected to offer a smoother and more refined experience.

Flexibility for Players:

For those who prefer the previous version, Cyberpunk 2077 still offers support for both FSR 2.1 and FSR 3, giving players the freedom to experiment and choose the settings that best suit their gaming style. As CD Projekt Red put it, “This allows players to experiment and find what fits their gaming style best.”

This update is currently available for PC players only, providing Cyberpunk 2077 fans with even more ways to customize their visual and performance preferences.
