Sony is set to take its latest PlayStation game, Concord, offline on September 6th, 2024, after disappointing sales figures. The first-person hero shooter, which launched exclusively for PS5 and PC on August 23rd, has reportedly sold fewer than 25,000 copies. The game also struggled on Steam, peaking at just 697 players — a lower figure than even The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, widely considered one of 2023’s worst releases.

“We have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options that will better reach our players,” said Concord game director Ryan Ellis in a PlayStation blog post. “While we determine the best path ahead, sales of Concord will cease immediately, and we will begin offering full refunds to all players who purchased the game for PS5 or PC.”

Refunds will be processed through the original payment methods for those who purchased the game on the PlayStation Store, while PC players will receive their refunds through Steam or the Epic Games Store in the coming days.

Originally priced at $40 after eight years of development, Concord faced stiff competition from free-to-play titles such as Overwatch and Valorant, failing to carve out a distinct niche in the crowded hero shooter market.

The mention of “options that will better reach our players” suggests that Concord may return as a free-to-play title in the future. “We’ll keep you updated, and thank you again to all the Freegunners who have joined us in the Concord galaxy,” added Ellis.
