The upcoming Update 7 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is expected to introduce significant changes, including official mod support. While PC players have enjoyed unofficial mods since the game’s early access, Larian Studios is now providing tools to create even better mods, with plans to bring modding to consoles as well. Larian CEO Swen Vincke revealed at PAX West that cross-platform modding support is the ultimate goal, though console modding will follow later due to submission processes.
The most eagerly anticipated addition in Update 7 is the inclusion of detailed cinematics for evil endings for every Origin character. According to Larian’s Studio Head, Swen Vincke, the patch is expected to drop in the first week of September.
However, beta testers have expressed dissatisfaction with some of the new evil endings, particularly for the character Wyll, which they claim is too similar to an Evil Tav (the name for custom characters in Baldur’s Gate 3), with only minor dialogue changes. This has sparked debate among fans on Reddit and other social forums, with some arguing that Larian has prioritized Astarion, who has received 12 hours and 45 minutes of new footage, compared to Wyll’s 8 hours. Fans believe this may be a strategic move by Larian, given Astarion’s popularity.
As the release of Update 7 approaches, the community eagerly awaits to see what changes and content Larian Studios will deliver.
