Fans of the Alan Wake and Control universes have reason to celebrate today, as Remedy Entertainment has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Annapurna Interactive. This collaboration aims to bring these iconic game franchises to film, television, and “other audiovisual formats,” while also securing funding for the highly anticipated Control 2.
In a detailed press release, Remedy and Annapurna unveiled their plans, with Annapurna stepping in as a co-production and co-financing partner for Control 2. Remedy will continue to focus on what it does best—developing immersive and innovative games—while Annapurna takes the lead in translating these narratives into multimedia experiences. This partnership marks a significant expansion of the Remedy universe, with a focus on reaching new audiences through diverse storytelling mediums.
Hector Sanchez, the newly appointed president of interactive and new media at Annapurna and former head of Unreal Engine games business at Epic, highlighted the innovative nature of this partnership. “This deal with Remedy isn’t just about adapting great games—it’s about breaking new ground in how companies can collaborate,” Sanchez said. “By backing Remedy’s move toward self-publishing, we’re putting our faith in their vision. We know from experience that Remedy is a first-class games development partner, and we’re excited to share their work with an even wider audience by bringing the Control and Alan Wake universes to film, television, and beyond.”
This partnership comes on the heels of the successful release of Alan Wake 2, which received widespread acclaim. Last year, the game earned a stellar 9/10 rating, with critics praising it as a “superb survival horror sequel that makes the cult-classic original seem like little more than a rough first draft by comparison.” Remedy has already launched the first DLC for Alan Wake 2, titled Night Springs, and is planning to release a second DLC in October.
Meanwhile, Control 2, though still several years away from release, has reached the “production readiness stage,” according to Remedy. Additionally, the studio’s ambitious remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2 have entered full production, signaling a busy and creative period for Remedy Entertainment.
This collaboration between Remedy and Annapurna promises to push the boundaries of how video game narratives can be experienced, offering fans and newcomers alike an opportunity to explore the Alan Wake and Control universes in entirely new ways.
