A crash message in Path of Titans now alerts users that Intel’s Raptor Lake CPUs are causing game crashes, directing them to a link that may help mitigate the issue.
Alderon Games, one of the first publishers to express frustration over Raptor Lake instability, has taken the unusual step of incorporating in-game warnings to inform players of the problem. When a crash occurs on a system using a Raptor Lake or Raptor Lake Refresh CPU, an error screen titled “Problematic CPU Detected” appears, informing the user that their 13th or 14th-gen CPU has issues with Unreal Engine 5, leading to crashes. The notification offers users a link to potential solutions.
This move comes as Alderon Games has been severely impacted by the instability of Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen processors, with the studio reporting nearly a 100% crash rate on its Raptor Lake-equipped systems, affecting everything from development PCs to gaming servers. Thousands of customer-owned PCs running Path of Titans have also experienced crashes due to this instability.
Intel recently announced that it has identified the root cause of these crashes, attributing them to elevated voltages that can cause irreversible damage to Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh processors. A new microcode update is expected by mid-August to address the voltage issue and prevent further degradation. However, some reports suggest that elevated voltages may be only one of several factors contributing to the instability.
